Dear Lori, Lodge Staff and Owners — First of all, you are amazing and we greatly appreciate everything you did throughout our almost 4-week stay. You quickly adapted and accommodated our many requests, needs, and date changes. What a host! We can’t say enough about the lodge. The rooms were comfortable, spacious, private, and well kept. In our business, to find a living space that allows us a home-like environment and privacy is rare. It gave us time to breathe, rest and enjoy a little downtime from our demanding project.

The stunning mountain views and the sunrises and sunsets offered color palettes that were exquisite. We know Sam was in your sunroom, sipping coffee and enjoying the early morning sunrise every morning he could. We also enjoyed the whitetail deer family who seemingly have made your property home. Mother Nature certainly touches your lodge in godlike ways.

SOUTHWESTERN MONTANA

The Shields River and Valley

The Shields River flows over 65 miles and is a tributary of the Yellowstone River. The headwaters of the Shields River originates in the Crazy Mountains within the Gallatin National Forest in northern Park County, Montana. It flows west, then south between the Bridger Mountain Range to the west and the Crazy Mountains to the east, past the towns of Wilsall and Clyde Park. It joins the Yellowstone River approximately 13 miles from the Shields River Lodge and 7 miles northeast of Livingston. The Shields River was named for John Shields, an early explorer and a member of the famed Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Chris Whitley, Founder

We had the pleasure of spending our honeymoon at the Shields River Lodge. We enjoyed the lovely lodge accommodations, the picturesque views of the Crazy Mountain Range, the phenomenal dinners created by Chef Don, and meeting many wonderful guests during our stay. The fishing on the Yellowstone River and the guides organized by the lodge were excellent. Lori and Chris were outstanding hosts. From receiving input on our itinerary for a visit to the Yellowstone National Park, to guiding us as we waded and fished the lodge’s private waters of the Shields River, the staff went above and beyond to make our experience special and memorable! Special thanks for the bottle of champagne and picnic on the Shields River.
